Heisbransjens Utdanningssenter (HBU) is an continual education center for lift constructors in Norway.
HBU is owned by the The Norwegian Elevator Constructor Union (HMF) and The Norwegian Elevator Contractor/Corporation/Company Union (HLF).
This includes about 80% of elevator constructors and companies in Norway, this is about 750 elevator constructors.
HBU is financed 50/50 by HMF and HLF
HBU also share location and staff with OPPHEI. OPPHEI is a training center for elevator trainees that is a common center for training new elevator constructors in Norway. The education is 2 1/2 years to be certified as an elevator constructor. OPPHEI, has about 50-60 trainees in its training program.
The center was created in 1988 to update elevator constructors knowledge of modern elevators that uses electronic controllers and has continued on as a training center to keep constructors up to date on components like motors, safety equipment, lift controllers, wire ropes, hydraulic systems etc. Rules and regulations is also an important subjects that is included in the training.
Each year we make a new course, and we are running 5-6 courses at the same time. So when we make a new one we phase out an old one. Each course is 5 days, Monday through Friday.
To make the best courses we use a combination of local instructors, experienced elevator constructors and experts in special fields.
